Apiary

As part of our research program to explore pollinator health and behaviour, we maintain a small number of hives in the Silwood apiary. These hives provide crucial data on a range of research projects exploring honeybee and wild bee health. We also showcase the bees at the Silwood Bugs, Birds and Beasts Day as long as the weather is good and the bees arn’t mid-experiment

PhD student Monika Yordanova inspects the hives to make sure they are in good health

24 hour monitoring

Nothing replaces good bee husbandry for collecting data on bee health, but in addition we have a series of experiments collecting data around the clock in the hives. Some data is streamed directly to this page!
